Many are buzzing about Saturday night’s Rosanne Cash concert at Hill Auditorium.  AnnArbor.com music critic Roger LeLievre writes, “Cash was in superb voice, delivering new depth not only to her more familiar tunes, but also to classics…”

I highly enjoyed Rosanne Cash's performance on Saturday night–I've always had a soft spot for country music. However, I wasn't that familiar with most of the songs she performed from "The List" and am curious to hear what others thought about her renditions–especially from individuals that ARE familiar with the original tunes. Any of the songs she sang on your list, too?

I disliked this performance a great deal. I would have left at intermission had there been one. The onslaught of lookalike hackneyed rock arrangements really ruined this "roots" music for me. I grew up on it. I listened to Patsy Kline and Tammy Wynette and many other icons of American roots music. I just thought this was a desecration. And boring, too. As a musician, I really thought the sound person could have adjusted things so we didn't hear the drummer much too loud, with that monotonous back beat , and the bass much too soft. Cash doesn't enunciate and you don't know the lyrics unless you know the song. I think she is taking advantage of her family name.

I disagree with music lover. I thought her performance was excellent. I don't think she is trying to capitalize on any of family's fame. She is her own person with a remarkable voice. She has endured many hardships and has found a creative way to deal with them and for that I am ever thankful. She has inspired me in ways she will never know. From where I sat, I thought the sound was great. I love her and her husband singing together. I love the little gesture of love at the beginning of the show. I thought they were all great band members and all did their job well. I can't wait to see her perform again.
We Love you Roseanne over in this family.

My wife and attended Saturday's concert and it was seriously one of UMS most disappointing concerts we've attended. This is NO reflection on Ms. Cash – as her song choices were fine, and we appreciated her paying homage to her father and all the other notable songwriters. Her voice was strong and she sang quite wonderfully.
The problem you ask? We sere sitting in the 3rd row center; normally fantastic seats! In this case, though, Ms. Cash's band all had their amplifiers on stage. Unfortunately, the only speakers carrying her voice were high above, and all we heard was a slightly delayed echo off the ceiling and rear of the auditorium. It was so bad, that unlike the person above who would have departed, my wife and I did leave – at least to the back of the auditorium – under the baclcony. From that vantage point, the rest of her concert was fine.
I'm not sure who set up the speaker equipment, but you may wish to tell them to examine what is being heard from ALL sections of the auditorium. Hill is one of the finest music venues I've been to, but from the 3rd row, Saturday night's performance was atrocious!

I was in the First Balcony and have to say that Ms. Cash's voice was drowned out by the band. I thought they should have made her mic louder.

My wife and I were seated far-right middle section for Roseanne's concert and from what I am reading from others it is like we attended different concerts. We enjoyed the concert very much, had no problem hearing Roseanne's fine voice, and suffered no unpleasantness of any kind. In fact, when she sang "500 miles" I was transported back to the summer of 1971 when us guys serenaded the girls one evening at Band Camp. Thanks, Roseanne.

as a longtime country music fan and concertgoer, i'm a little perplexed by some of the comments about the sound quality and mix of the band and voice. the concert was terrific, both in terms of repertoire and execution. from where I sat (just about halfway up, on the left side of the main floor), i could hear all the instruments distinctly and as opposed to many country shows that i've attended these past few years, there was no drowning out of either voice or the individual instruments. in fact, i thought the mix was just right for once; tasteful, adult and professional performances. thanks rosanne and ums. give us more of the same.
