Maybe I was just in an anticipatory mood, having missed my JALC fix last year. But it seemed like they played the first number and my brains fell out, and it just went on from there!
Wynton’s compositions and arrangements were superb, as usual, and the collective sense of playfulness was outstanding! Seemed like there was more funkiness this time, with all the plungers, mutes, wails and growls. Carnival time in ann arbor, for sure!
