People Are Talking: UMS presents Audra McDonald:

  • Thank you UMS for another absolutely lovely evening with Audra McDonald! She was her typical beautiful, talented, gracious self & it made for an unforgettable night!

  • People Are Talking: UMS presents Asif Ali Khan Qawwali Ensemble at Rackham Auditorium:

  • We thought the concert was fantastic!
It was wonderful to see so many people loving what was obviously familiar music to them.
And we felt invited to the party!
Thanks UMS & Asif Ali Khan for an enchanting evening!

  • People Are Talking: UMS presents Kidd Pivot: The Tempest Replica at Power Center:

  • MUST SEE! This performance was amazing. It made us feel; it made us think; it made us wonder; it had us in awe. Kidd Pivot is incredible and we thank UMS for bringing them to Ann Arbor.
This was one of the best, if not the best, glosses on a major work that we’ve ever seen. The choreography was astoundingly creative and the dancers were not to be believed.
If you can, please see it–you will be so glad you did.

  • People are Talking: UMS presents John Malkovich in The Infernal Comedy at Hill Auditorium [plus AUDIO]:

  • We love that UMS is willing to take a chance on edgy performances and to challenge the audience, because we end up seeing some fantastic things that way. But this one really didn’t work for us. The music was enjoyable, and there were moments that the acting pulled us in, but then it invariably fell flat. It was interesting at points, but never really came together in a way that made us feel we’d learned much from the confessions of a serial killer.
But please don’t stop, UMS–we’re glad to have had the opportunity!

  • We thought it was a demonstration of the bit about his group being incompetent.

I enjoyed the performance immensely as a way to rethink what is opera. It tells a story with the music to underline and expand the meaning of the libretto. My question has to do with the translation or mis-translation of the German. I would find it difficult to believe that it was in error. But why was it done that way? What reason did I not understand?

  • People Are Talking: Takács Quartet:

  • Wonderful concert. Both pieces done nearly to perfection–very moving. Thanks again, UMS!

  • People Are Talking: Frankenstein:

  • That would be great!

Why not have another broadcast of Frankenstein, only this time with the other two actors switching roles as they do in London.

  • People Are Talking: Frankenstein:

  • We missed this when in London last month–couldn’t get tickets–and were absolutely delighted to have seen it here. It surpassed our expectations, which were high. Thank you for an amazing experience. We can’t wait to see it live as there was so much in it that a second viewing is necessary. Fantastic!

  • People Are Talking: Susurrus:

  • We wanted to thank you for bringing Susurrus to UM! We went yesterday and cannot do our experience justice in this post. It was absolutely wonderful! The play itself is profound and moving and the combination of the music and setting took our breath away time and again. This was such a unique and expansive experience. Entering the grove of Maples with the music playing in our ears, at that point in the play, was a deeply powerful experience.

We hope that in the future UMS will be able to bring more such unusual and remarkable pieces. We know you're always plotting.

Thank you again. This was truly a treasure.
