People Are Talking: UMS presents Hubbard Street Dance Chicago: Works of William Forsythe:

  • While I found the movements interesting, I became bored after 5 minutes as all of the performances were repetitive in the extreme. There was no feeling of anything artistically, i.e.- inducing a deep sensual feeling. Much less worthwhile than their previous appearance here.

  • People are Talking: UMS presents John Malkovich in The Infernal Comedy at Hill Auditorium [plus AUDIO]:

  • I enjoyed the performance immensely as a way to rethink what is opera. It tells a story with the music to underline and expand the meaning of the libretto. My question has to do with the translation or mis-translation of the German. I would find it difficult to believe that it was in error. But why was it done that way? What reason did I not understand?

  • People Are Talking: Richard III & The Comedy of Errors:

  • Knowing what I knew about the this company’s approach to staging I expected to be distracted by focusing on the mechanics. However, I was amazed to better see the play itself as the sets, costumes and the staging are stripped to the minimum. The core of the play came through better even than the RSC presentation here 10 years ago, as good as that was.
We look forward to seeing Comedy of Errors tonight.

  • People Are Talking About…”The Habit of Art”:

  • It was a great evening. There is something special about London theater, particularly the non-musical presentations. I think UMS presenting these productions adds much to Ann Arbor and serves as a yardstick for local theater groups. Will we be showing the 5th. one in the series (London Assurance)?
